Health and Safety

altOn the whole, Auckland is pretty much a safe city to visit, and therefore one must take the normal amount of precautions when visiting the city. For example, women traveling alone should generally go out in groups (especially late at night). Overall, everyone should avoid dark side streets. There are also thieves who break into cars, so be careful and don’t leave valuables in the car.
Please note the local emergency contact for all police, fire and ambulance services is 111.

Tip: If you are planning on driving on Friday or Saturday night, be extra vigilant and careful because of the number of drunk drivers on the road that are out racing.
Specific areas that one should be extra careful in:
     1.    Karangahape Road – littered with pubs and clubs
     2.    Lower Queen Street – shopping area full of homeless people
     3.    Fort Street – full of backpackers and former red light district
     4.    High Street/Vulcan Lane – take care at night
     5.    Viaduct Harbor
