Driving is the best way to get around Beirut and elsewhere in the country. Car rental is a bit steep but considering that fuel is cheap and easy to get, it works out to be quite economical and convenient. However one should be aware that motorists in Beirut are not great sticklers for road signs and regulations and you may find it a wee bit difficult to maneuver through the traffic. Law enforcement is practically non-existent and parking can prove to be an exercise in patience. Even though massive road repair work is going on, you might come across unexpected potholes, so be prepared. Driving in the mountain regions can be hazardous so get behind the wheel only if you are an adventurer at heart. The beautiful scenery and crisp fresh air more than makes up for the trouble you put yourself through.
