City in a Day

ImageSeeing the whole of Cape Town in one day is an impossible task. A good idea would be to concentrate on some of the renowned tourist hotspots that Cape Town boasts of. Tourists can choose to either stick to city centre attractions which entail Cape Town’s cultural treasures or can choose to soak up the natural beauty and scenery that Cape Town is celebrated for. A good idea would be to opt for a full day tour offered by African Eagle or Atlas tour operators.

Start off by visiting the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve followed by Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Satiate your appetite by stopping off at Buitenverwachting for lunch and treat yourself to the mouth watering dishes listed on the menu such as the calamari and crayfish. Stop over at the Irma Stern Museum where you will be able to appreciate the history of Cape Town and the customs of the African people. In the evening visit Boulder’s Beach where you can just unwind as you will undoubtedly be exhausted by that point. Go for a quick dip or just lounge around watching the penguins.

Alternatively you can stay in Cape Town Central, making Castle of Good Hope dating back to the Portuguese colonization of Cape Town your first stop. The castle opens to visitors around 9 A.M. Then go down to the South African Museum to be dazzled by the gorgeous African artifacts and rock paintings on display there. Have an early lunch at one of Cape Town’s excellent eateries- either Ocean Basket or Rozenhof both located in the vicinity. Head off for the Gold of Africa Museum and treat yourself to the gorgeous collection on display here. Also visit the slave lodge. Both these attractions close by 5 P.M.  In the evening stroll around Cape Town Central’s various shops, take a souvenir home from African Image or Streetwires.  Head for dinner to Cape Town’s renowned restaurant Aubergine and enjoy the delicious food and desserts served there.
