Health & Safety in Damascus

(0 votes, average 0 out of 5)

ImageEven though Damascus is generally very safe, there are some points worth remembering. It is always advisable to remain vigilant. Avoid deserted places especially after sundown. If it is necessary to venture out at night, be sure to do so in big groups.

It is also advisable to use metered taxis as a mode of transportation. But if you opt to drive yourself, make sure you wear your seat belts at all times; violators of traffic rules are handed hefty punishments. Pedestrians should also be cautious because of the reckless drivers around.  Men and women should dress modestly and couples should observe the norms that operate within Islamic countries when visiting religious sites.

Because temperatures in Damascus are known to soar especially in the summer months, travelers should drink plenty of fluids and wear a cap/ hat to avoid getting a heat stroke.
