Driving Tips

ImageVisitors are allowed to drive in the UAE with an international driver’s licence. As with other countries in this region, driving is on the right side of the road. Well laid out, multi-laned roads can be a boon for those driving themselves around but certain things have to be kept in mind too. Speed limits are 60- 80 kms/hr in the city and maximum 100- 120 kms/hr on highways. All roads are radar-controlled so it is advisable to stick to speed limits if you don’t want to be caught violatng traffic regulations and unnecessary hassles later. All road signs are in Arabic as well as in English with clear directions, numbered exits etc. However due to the constant work in progress in Dubai (especially the Dubai Metro), there are bound to be blockades and road diversions, so watch out! Also, parking hassles, traffic jams and irrational drivers with peculiar road etiquette can be quite trying on your nerves so it is best to be mentally prepared for all of this.
