ImageThe SÜleymaniye Mosque is the largest mosque in Istanbul and is visible from most of the Old city area known as Sultanahmet. The mosque is located on one of the seven hills of Istanbul and is a spectacular sight. It was built by the famous architect Sinan for SÜleyman the Magnificent in the 16th century. The mosque is ornate and contains columns from several ancient cities.  The mausoleums of   Süleyman   and his wife are located in the grounds of this mosque. This complex of buildings comprises a madrasa, a medical madrasa and hospital, a dining hall, a bath, hospices and shops.
