Buses & the Dolmus

(0 votes, average 0 out of 5)

ImageBuses in Istanbul are cheap and frequent. The final destination of the bus is indicated above the front windshield and there are many major stops listed on the side of the bus next to the entrance. Some of the more useful major hubs are at Eminönü, Taksim, and Besiktas. Commuters can purchase tickets at the major hubs or on the bus itself. The cost of one ride is about 1.35 YTL. Bus number 14 between Takshim and Sultanahmet is one of the most useful bus routes. This runs approximately every 35 minutes. The bus stop in Sultanahmet is located on Sultanahmet Parki, across from the tourist information office. On the European Side of Istanbul, the main bus terminal is Büyük Otogar (+90 212 658 0505 ) in  Eminönü. Travelers also have the option of using shared taxi-vans called dolmus which can take you anywhere around town. The main dolmus stands are located in Taksim, Sirkec and Aksaray and connect to destinations all over the city. Dolmuses are often more direct than metropolitan buses and cheaper than taxis.
