Karachi is a city with a high crime rate. Street crimes like cell phone snatching and mugging are very common. It is best to use common sense and avoid going off adventuring alone through dark, dingy alleyways even during the daytime. It is also advisable to keep your valuables, especially cell phones and other electronic gadgets like iPods, inside bags while traveling in public transport or out in the marketplace. A mere flash of the gadget can lure master pickpockets or even trigger-happy muggers to you.

Some numbers worth noting down are:

Ambulance                   115
Bomb Disposal            ( 92-21) 2416626
Fire Brigade Center     16
Civil Hospital

(Casualties)                  (92-21) 7729719
Police Emergency        15
Telephone Enquiry       17

Additionally, you should also keep the contact numbers of your embassy or foreign mission with you at all times in case of any emergency.

It is also highly advisable to avoid large political gatherings, rallies, and other events that are regularly held within the city, as there is a constant risk of suicide bombings at such meetings.
