A city is incomplete without its own museum! This museum tells the story of the ancient city that has evolved into the large urban center of today. It was constructed in 1992 near the site of the earliest settlement of Montreal, Point a Calliere, to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the founding of Montreal. Its on-site location makes it an excellent archaeological museum, as excavations and research can be carried out right in its own vicinity. Therefore the exhibits contain the newest relics discovered on site. The museum also offers guided tours, special shows, and audiovisual aids that narrate different phases of the history of the city.
