ImageChildren’s Museum

This museum was opened in 1990. It is a unique structure easily differentiated from its surroundings by its twin domes. This is primarily a Science museum with a focus on the environment and nature. For tourists travelling with their children this is the ideal place to stop over at. The exhibits are fantastic and children are able to participate in virtual tours. The displays are very interactive satisfying the curiosity of children of all ages.


Timings: Saturday- Thursday 9 am - 1 pm & 4 – 6pm (Oct- March)

Admission: 500 Baisas (Adults); 100 Baisas (Children)

Natural History Museum

This museum is small and only a few collections are on display, but these collections are a must see. The museum sheds light on Muscat and Oman’s geography and geology. Plants and animals common to the area are also on exhibit. An amazing exhibit is that of a skeleton of a sperm whale found in Muscat about 30 years ago. The botanical gardens are also lovely to take a quick stroll through.

Al Riyam Park

Children will love to play in this lovely park where there are lots of rides and where there is a lot of room to run and skip around. Adults meanwhile can make their way to the huge incense burner structure from which they will get a breath taking view of the surrounding city.

Bandar Jissah

This is a wonderful beach resort where children and adults alike are bound to enjoy themselves. The waters are a beautiful turquoise color and extremely clean. The white sand is bound to be loved by kids who can build castles and mess around. Swimming and boat riding are both possible here.

Kalbuh Park

Another wonderful park for children to enjoy, this is located in Mutrah and the watch tower is located very close by. There is ample space for children to play here and a number of fun rides and swings.

Planetarium

This was built in 2000. It is attached to the Oil and Gas Exhibition Centre; open only 2 days a week there is a fantastic one hour film that is shown here that children are bound to enjoy. Tourists with children must book in advance.

Qurum Park

This is Muscat’s largest park. It is beautiful. Adults and children are bound to enjoy themselves here. The park occupies an area of about 170,000 square meters. There is also a lake where children can go boating. The park has been open since 1993. There is a reptile and bird park located here as well. Fun world is also located here with rides that children will love.
