Safety

Although Sydney is a very safe city, there are some areas where you may want to hold your purse or wallet a little bit tighter. For instance, stay on high alert on George Street near the Town Hall station since local gangs are known to roam the area. Also, be on guard around Central Station, pick-pocketing has tended to occur around there. Kings Cross and Redfern are Sydney’s least safe towns, so you should have your wits about you when walking about. In addition, if you are traveling at night by train, it may be best to grab a carriage next to the guard’s van, which is usually signaled by a blue light on the outside of its carriages.
