It is now official. Pakistanis can now visit Qatar and get a visa on arrival. The Qatar Embassy in Islamabad confirmed the news which was initially circulated in early August but later denied. All you need is a valid credit card and a passport valid for six months and you can be on your way to Doha for a holiday. Of course, a round trip ticket is also required.

This visa free status for Pakistanis opens up a massive opportunity for tourism into Qatar. With a large middle class that has the wherewithal to spend on the finer things in life but limited access to visa-free holiday destinations, it is expected that long weekends in Pakistan will encourage travel to Doha. Shopping, fine dining and luxury hotels will attract thousands of visitors from Pakistan.

Doha can also become a convenient MICE destination as many Pakistani companies arrange corporate team building away days based on ease of visa availability.

Pakistan’s online travel booking industry is hampered by visa related hassles and the spontaneity of a last minute holiday has been denied to too many Pakistanis for too long. Now Doha can become the place to go for a whimsical short weekend or for a winter break.

One caveat is that Doha has not promoted itself enough in Pakistan as a destination. While Qatar Airways has been promoting the airline aggressively, Pakistanis are not aware of the tourist attractions that they can find in Doha.

Business opportunities in Qatar are opening up and Pakistani exporters can avail the visa on arrival facility to make a trip for business prospecting. And if you want to know what to do and where to go in Doha check out our Doha city guide.
